I Didn’t Come Out Here to Find Myself

I didn’t start hiking like everyone else.

Most people come out here because it’s a dream.

A reset.

A lifelong goal.

I came out here because I had nowhere else to go.

I quit my job.

Let my bills lapse.

Got lost in alcohol and a version of reality I couldn’t hold together anymore.

So I made a decision.

If I’m going to be homeless…

where better than the trail?

Out here, a lot of people are technically homeless.

But not like me.

I don’t have a destination.

I don’t have a home waiting.

I don’t have somewhere I need to be.

And out here… that’s not frowned upon.

That’s accepted.

This isn’t a story about “finding yourself.”

It’s about what happens when there’s nothing left to hold onto

and you start walking anyway.
