I Was Tired of Being “Poet”

Somewhere along the way…

I stopped being John.

And I became Poet.

That’s the version people wanted.

That’s the version that got attention.

The one that got invited onto podcasts.

The one people asked to tell the story… again and again.

But something got lost in that.

Me.

I didn’t come out here to be Poet.

I came out here to try to be John again.

The version of me that existed before the labels.

Before the expectations.

Before people decided who I was supposed to be.

Everyone wants the story.

But no one really asks what it costs to keep telling it.

So I walked away from all of it.

Not to build something new.

But to see if I could find something old.

So far…

I don’t know if I have.
